The Resume Is Dead. Long Live the Resume Agent.

By Philip Burgess - UX Research Leader

Resumes have barely changed in decades—static documents, bullet points, and PDFs that rarely capture who you are as a professional. They often feel more like checklists than stories, and they rarely give hiring managers, collaborators, or clients a chance to experience who you are in real time.

So, I asked myself: What if a resume could talk back? What if it wasn’t just read—but experienced?

That’s exactly what I set out to build with my interactive resume.

Meet My Resume Agent

Instead of scrolling through lines of text, visitors to my resume can now ask me questions directly by clicking on my profile picture. Powered by AI and designed to represent me, the agent responds in real-time—explaining my background, skills, and experiences.

It’s like having a live conversation with my professional story.

The agent even speaks with an AI-generated voice, creating a dynamic interaction that goes beyond text. This is my first attempt at building something like this, so it’s still evolving—but it’s already opening up a new way of thinking about professional branding and storytelling.

Why This Matters

  • Static → Interactive: No more one-way communication. Employers, collaborators, or clients can explore the parts of my story most relevant to them.

  • Human + AI Integration: The agent reflects my expertise while also demonstrating the potential of AI as a personal brand amplifier.

  • Future of Hiring & Networking: Imagine a world where every portfolio includes a conversational guide, making talent more approachable and contextual.

What It Means for AI + UX

This project isn’t just about showcasing my own work—it’s a prototype for the future of human–AI interaction. We’re moving toward an era where:

  • Resumes become living systems.

  • Portfolios are explorations, not exhibits.

  • AI agents act as extensions of ourselves, bridging the gap between information and interaction.

The Bigger Picture

AI agents won’t just support our work—they’ll represent us. From customer service to professional branding, these integrations are beginning to blur the line between human presence and digital presence in powerful ways.

My interactive resume is one small experiment in this direction, but I believe we’ll soon see similar approaches expand across industries, professions, and platforms.
